We're excited to announce a major upgrade to XION's infrastructure and the launch of the Generalized Abstraction Testnet!

XION’s layer one chain is purpose-built for mass consumer adoption by enshrining UX at the protocol-level. Alongside its recently released Generalized Abstraction whitepaper, the upgrade introduces major benefits outlined below.

Recap: What is Generalized Abstraction?

XION’s Generalized Abstraction is an all-encompassing infrastructure solution aimed at removing all complexities inherent to crypto to enable mainstream adoption. Its foundation is built upon the seamless integration of complex blockchain functionalities – such as accounts, signatures, fees, and interoperability – directly at the protocol level. In doing so, XION eliminates significant barriers to entry for new users, while circumventing fragmentation challenges that developers encounter in other ecosystems.

XION’s signature agnostic abstracted accounts, Meta Accounts, enable users to easily onboard onto XION apps using familiar Web2 methods such as email or biometrics, and essentially any cryptographic signature scheme. While users no longer have to install Metamask or other crypto wallets, these are supported as well, allowing XION to cater to all audiences. In addition, Meta Accounts enable powerful functionalities such as seamless cross-device usage, key rotation, and diverse authentication methods.

The upgraded testnet features core foundational aspects of Generalized Abstraction, such as its Meta Accounts, signature abstraction, device abstraction, parameterized fee layer, and more, enabling developers to build next-generation consumer-friendly applications.

Recap: XION Expedition

The XION Expedition has been launched as a unique opportunity for users to embark on an exploration of the ecosystem, contribute to its growth, and experience firsthand the functionality and innovation that the XION chain brings. By participating, users engage in a series of both on-chain and off-chain phases allowing them to dive deeply into the XION ecosystem and explore all that it has to offer. In addition, as an early user they play a crucial role in helping to ensure a smooth mainnet launch by pushing the network to its very limits.
