XION Bringing Chain Abstraction to Solana via Picasso

The integration will increase cross-ecosystem liquidity and make it easier for users to interact with Solana-based applications without the complexities typically associated with Web3.

We're thrilled to announce that XION is bringing Chain Abstraction to the Solana ecosystem via Picasso Network. This integration marks another milestone in our mission to make Web3 more accessible and user-friendly across major blockchain networks. By combining XION's Chain Abstraction solution with Picasso's cross-chain capabilities, we are paving the way for seamless interoperability, increased liquidity, and enhanced user experiences on Solana and across all connected ecosystems.

Expanding Chain Abstraction Across Ecosystems

XION has been at the forefront of bringing its Chain Abstraction solution to various blockchain ecosystems, such as BNB, AVAX, SAGA, Injective, and more. The goal of Chain Abstraction is to make Web3 more accessible and intuitive for all users by abstracting away blockchain complexities. XION’s solution allows it to serve as an extension to all major blockchain networks, reshaping the historically competitive nature of L1s, which typically compete for users, liquidity, and developers, to enable true mainstream adoption. XION is continuing this expansion to the Solana ecosystem through its work with Picasso.

Picasso Overview

Picasso is a cross-chain bridging and staking hub between Cosmos and Solana that enables seamless communication and asset transfers between ecosystems. It is the only live IBC implementation between Ethereum, Polkadot, Cosmos, and Solana. IBC is a trust-minimized bridging solution and widely regarded as the most reliable and successful interoperability communication protocol available. It only relies on the security of the transferring and receiving chains, as validators on both chains must verify the transactions, and reduces censorship risk by avoiding any reliance on intermediaries. Picasso enables projects to launch their tokens multi-chain to enter new ecosystems. In addition, Picasso is pioneering Solana restaking and any project can apply to be an AVS secured by restaked SOL.

Enabling Chain Abstraction to Solana via Picasso

XION is bringing chain abstraction to Solana via its Picasso integration, which establishes the necessary infrastructure for frictionless cross-ecosystem interoperability and optimal end-user experiences. By combining XION's chain abstraction capabilities with Picasso's cross-chain capabilities, the integration will enhance liquidity and create a variety of novel cross-ecosystem use cases, making it easier for non-crypto-native users to onboard and interact with powerful on-chain applications without grappling with the complexities inherent in Web3.

Solana is the 4th largest ecosystem by TVL, with a market cap of over $80 billion. More importantly, Solana is one of the leading ecosystems driving true retail adoption of Web3. With no trust-minimized bridging solutions available, it has remained mostly siloed from the rest of the industry, and this integration is a major step in creating cross-ecosystem interoperability.

"We're excited to bring Chain Abstraction to the Solana ecosystem via Picasso because it connects two of the largest ecosystems focused on driving true mainstream adoption of Web3," said Burnt Banksy, a core contributor to XION.

Through this integration, native assets from both ecosystems will be able to flow freely, vastly enhancing access and liquidity. In addition, users will be able to interact seamlessly across ecosystems and applications using a single account, regardless of the underlying infrastructure powering those applications. XION's chain abstraction solution will create a unified user experience, abstracting away the complexities of the various blockchain networks and enabling users to navigate with ease. This is made possible through the combination of smart contract accounts on both the host chain (Meta Accounts) and the destination chain. These smart contracts communicate through Picasso's cross-chain messaging protocol, ensuring secure and reliable communication between XION and Solana. This frictionless interoperability will unlock new possibilities for cross-ecosystem interactions and composability, driving continued innovation and mainstream adoption of Web3.

Conclusion

Bringing Chain Abstraction to Solana represents a significant milestone, as it brings cross-chain interoperability and seamless user experiences to another major ecosystem. Through the integration, XION is increasing cross-ecosystem liquidity and making it easier for users to interact with Solana-based applications without the complexities typically associated with Web3. Picasso's cross-chain capabilities, combined with XION's Generalized Abstraction, ensure a secure, efficient, and user-friendly experience for all. As XION continues to expand its Chain Abstraction solution across multiple blockchain ecosystems, it remains committed to driving adoption by improving user experiences and seamlessly connecting all major ecosystems.

About Picasso

Picasso is the leading Layer 1 infrastructure protocol that serves as the bridging hub between Solana / Ethereum / Cosmos / Polkadot, and restaking hub for Solana. Picasso launched the first and the only live IBC connections outside of the Cosmos ecosystem, connecting all 4 major ecosystems. The mission for Picasso is to bring highest level security bridging everywhere (IBC) and allow the Solana community to secure projects outside of their ecosystem, DeFi & Dapps. The project is backed by Blockchain Capital, Spartan, Coinbase Ventures, and Jump.
